The Greek words: typto, typos and nouthesia
typto - the verb; used 13 times; to strike, beat or wound (e.g. Luke 6:29, Acts 23:2, 1Cor.8:12)
typos - the noun, used 15 times, a figure fashioned by a blow or by beating, hence an image; translated as type, sign , example or pattern of something else (e.g. Rom.5:14, 1Cor.10:6, Phil.3:17)
nouthesia - a noun, used 3 times, from two root words that together connote the establishment or instilling of instruction or understanding (1Cor.10:11. Eph.6:4, Tit.3:10)
In 1Cor. 10:11, "typos" and "nouthesia" together convey the meaning of a 'warning sign' .
In 1 Cor. 10:5-11, Paul holds up five warning signs that God has given us in the account of the desert wanderings of His people that we should heed during our journey on earth.
