parakaleo - a compound word made up of para, meaning along side, and kaleo, which means calling out (to appeal, invite, comfort etc).

It is translated conciliate in 1 Corinthians 4:13.

It is the same word that the Lord uses four times in the gospel of John to describe the Holy Spirit who he gives us as a helper (comforter - KJV) so that we might have deeper understanding of God's word and strength to walk in the word.

In 1 John 2:1 Jesus is our advocate (paraklete) in heaven at the Father's right hand as he petitions the Father on the behalf of his brothers on earth.
